In the wizarding world, the spongify charm can be used to soften a target. This one is mostly seen in the Harry Potter video games.
In our activity, we are going to use a chemical reaction to soften an egg. The egg will soften because the chemicals in the shell will react with the vinegar. An egg shell is made of calcium carbonate and vinegar contains the acid, acetic acid. These chemicals react with each other, which ends up removing the shell from the egg.

Here is what to do,
- 1. Gather supplies
- Egg
- Vinegar
- Beaker or jar
- Fill the jar with vinegar and soak the egg
- Check on egg after several hours (or overnight). When the shell is gone from the egg, remove from the vinegar and rinse with water
